Hello everybody!
Waterbury is still as interesting as ever! One member
of the ward has a little Honda Civic that he's "pimped out" (this
story is actually somewhat relevant, so bear with me). We asked him why
he gave a Civic all of the toys he did, and he said, "I figured if I'm
driving through Waterbury, I've gotta go ghetto or go home." That
pretty much sums up all of Waterbury. One of our investigators has been
clean from heroin for about 2 weeks, there was another shooting last week
across town, and there are still about a million package stores around.
It seems like just about everybody has some kind of mental health issue,
addiction, or bizarre circumstances in life. It's inspiring to see people
still desire to rise above these circumstances to live a Christ-like life.
Elder Echols and I received an assignment from Bishop to
visit a certain LA family, and when we got there, we found out that we would be
needed for service AND spiritual lifting. We obviously did both, and we
have set a return appointment to continue teaching the family about the Plan of
Salvation and how it applies to all of us. They have said that they'll be
at General Conference, and who better to teach about the Gospel than General
Authorities?! haha
Steven was confirmed this Sunday, and his entire family was
there to support him. His mother, a devout Catholic, seems to be on the
fence about joining the Church. The feel from several members close to
the family is that she's "thinking about a lot," and that's great!
We hope to baptize another of the Schriver kids this month, and maybe
more walls will come down. Who knows? God's hand has already been
shown in so many ways in this ward...
Not a whole lot to report on, but there will be more next
week! Well... Wednesday, cuz transfers are in a couple weeks. We'll
see if all of the speculation that I'm training comes to fruition. Until
then!
Love all of y'all!
