June 30, 2014  Happy July, folks!

            Not a terribly eventful week. There are a few highlights, and I'll hit those here.
             The Schrivers came up to Avon, and we went to Friendly's for some lunch. It was great to see them again (and I think all of us looked noticeably thinner... haha) Sister Schriver, being who she is, loaded us up on munchies like cookies, Cheez-Its, and popcorn. And of course, they also provided Birch Beer and Mountain Dew :) The whole clan asked when they can come and see Elder Johnson and me again, so we'll see if there are any future rendezvouses in the mix.

         On Saturday, we went to the Stromberg family's home for a Cuban pig roast. There were tons of non-members (not interested in the gospel though... haha).  Elder Johnson and I were able to keep the kids at the party out of trouble and meet a lot of new folks. We went the whole night without offending anybody or doing something stupid, and several folks mentioned how friendly we were. So I guess we did OK, right?

        We also got to go to our ward mission leader's PPI with Bishop Steele to discuss the missionary work in the ward. It was great to hear Bishop's perspective on that, and also to get some of our ideas out. All seems to be a go, and we're excited to see some miracles happen here in Avon!   That's about it, folks. JULY 7, 2014     LOBSTAH FEST!!!                                                                                                            

 

         Happy (belated) 4th of July!  And happy birthdays and anniversary mom and dad!!

            Our 4th of July definitely didn't go as expected-there was something of a torrential downpour that started at about 8:15 and really ruined the rest of the night. All of the local fireworks shows cancelled or postponed, and so we were left with nothing to do for a huge part of the night. Luckily, the McDermotts (who fed us "LOBSTAH" for dinner!!!) let us stay and watch the Macey's fireworks on their TV :) 

            Our ward council is still learning how to effectively use the missionaries, so we're slowly getting more and more assignments. It feels good to be able to go to ward council and report on something, rather than just sit and feel awkward. The work is definitely starting to pick up, and we're both happy to be using our time more productively.

Today for P-Day, we're going to be having a Zone-wide water fight, so I'll have to keep you posted on how that plays out. It should be lots of fun :)

           In fast & testimony meeting, our Bishop made a really profound statement that has given me a lot to think about. I'd like to share that statement, and some of my ensuing thoughts. He was talking about how we all try to create a "masterpiece" with our life, and how we work so hard to make it happen. He then explained that, "Without a Master, there would be no masterpiece." It was a humbling reminder that we're not the ones who are really in control. Whatever we work to accomplish or become, is really because of the Master-Jesus Christ. As much as we want to be the master of our own lives, we need to remember that we aren't in charge at all. (The talk "Timing" by Elder Oaks really fills in the gaps and explains a lot better than I can.)  Sorry this one's short-my wrists are killing me today :P  Love y'all! Have a good
