Howdy,
howdy!
This
week has been absolutely nuts! It was very abnormal, but those led us to have
some truly unique experiences.
It
all started with seeing President and Sister Packard's son come home on
Wednesday. There were almost 90 missionaries there to see it, and ex-Elder
Brent Packard said it was a great homecoming. Normally, Sister Packard is a
very dignified woman, but as soon as she saw Brent coming through the terminal,
she started FREAKING OUT!!! She started yelling at him to walk faster and get
through the security point so that she could hug him, screaming, wringing her
hands, jumping up and down (in heels-pretty impressive), etc. I have to admit,
I had a brief horror film of Mom doing the exact same thing (but louder, more
specific words, and a HUGE sign) in 6 months. But the good news, is I still
have 6 months until I have to worry about that. hahaha
We
also had a mini-Missionary named Steve this weekend. He was a blast! He's 16,
from Braintree (in the same ward as Elder Kilgore, my trainer), and a great
guy. Braintree is a fairly nice town, so we took him into the heart of
Dorchester and Mattapan (affectionately nicknamed
"Lock-Your-Door-Chester" and "Murder-pan") to give him a
real experience. He loved it, and even bought us lunch at the BK Lounge (Burger
King :P haha)
The
real highlight of this week was a Mission Conference we had. Donald L.
Hallstrom, Patricia Holland, and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland came and spoke to us.
It was INCREDIBLE!!! There is really just way too much to type (and it's really
personal as well), so I'll just give a few highlights. Everybody may say that
their mission is the best, but Elder Holland said that the MBM is "one of
the finest missions [he's] ever seen." He also said, despite how much he
didn't want to say it, that "President Packard is the best Mission
President in the Church." Elder Holland also said that "this is the
finest missionary meeting I have ever had the privilege of attending."
Yes, those are direct quotes; we are just spoiled here in Boston :) After the
meeting, President & Sister Packard, as well as Elder & Sister Holland,
walked out, and we all just kind of stood there for like 10 minutes, marinating
in the Spirit that was there. Finally, President Christensen said we could sit
down, and ponder what we had just received. It was a truly life-changing event
for me, and a turning point in my conversion, for sure.
