Hey everybody! (I feel like I say this every week, but we're
on public transportation in Boston-wadda ya expect?) This week was totally
nuts!!!
Here's one example of the craziness:
Elder Motes and I were riding home on the T, and there was this drunk lady who
kept acting like she was coming on to Elder Motes. This random guy said he'd
help us out if she did anything. We laughed, and talked with him until the last
station, where we got off. He asked us if he could buy us dinner, and of course
we said yes. He bought us an entire pizza, and two drinks. We were having an
awesome conversation (turns out he's the director of Berklee College), and then
this homeless drunk guy comes in, and starts spitting on the floor and acting
like a goober. He asked where the pepper was, and we told him. So what does he
do? He goes over and gets all the pepper in the store, and starts to walk out
the door. Elder Motes told him that he had to put it back, and he did. Then he
starts trying to pick a fight with Elder Motes (while we're still talking to
this man from the T). We just keep walking away, and then this dude winds up to
punch. Our new friend blocks the punch, pushes the drunk guy away, and slams
the door on him before he can come back out for us. The drunk guy tries to kick
down the glass door (almost broke it), and then the store owner kicked him out.
Of course, he follows us and keeps trying to pick a fight. Luckily, there was a
cop fairly close who held him up long enough for us to get away. So we laughed
about the experience, and we exchanged numbers with the guy from the T. He told
us that if we were ever up by Berklee, to give him a call, and he'll buy us
lunch. Pretty exciting :)
We didn't teach a lot of
investigator lessons this week, but we did TONS of less-active contacting. We
have a new ward missionary who can now take the information we have on these
less-actives and fill out the paperwork we need to in order to get their records
off our registry and in the correct ward. Hopefully that will start happening
sooner than later.
At mutual this last week, we had our
non-member friend, Paul, come and help the young men out. He's a construction
worker that we met at Habitat for Humanity. Apparently some of the young men
want to be construction workers when they grow up (I have NO IDEA why... :P)
and so Paul came and helped them to put together a work table. We have a pretty
rowdy crowd, but they stayed focused and respectful, and Paul was absolutely
stoked to be there. He said he wants to come back so that they can sand and
paint the table. The cool part is this: he's a typical construction worker. He
smokes like crazy, curses like a construction worker, smells like a
construction worker, and definitely looks like a construction worker. But as we
talked at the activity, he told us about how he has issues understanding the
Bible, and how he wonders just how valid it is, given the history of how it was
put together, who actually wrote what, etc. The Lord opened a new door through
service, and we are so happy to be a part of it.
That same night, Elder Motes and I
ran a double split. I got to go out with Mitt Romney's right-hand man, Brother
Waldrip. He's one of 3 people whose paycheck is actually signed by Mitt Romney.
He's kind of a big deal. We talked about everything under the moon, including
flip-phones. He laughed when I told him that I'd only had a flip-phone before
the mission, and said he had a story for me. Here's the gist of it:
"You know how whenever you send an email from a smart phone, it says,
'Sent from my iPhone' or 'Sent from my Android or whatever at the bottom? Well,
Peyton Manning's say, 'Sent from my flip phone,' and it's so funny!" Hold
on. Pause for a second. Did he just say Peyton Manning?! Yeah. He did. I told
Brother Waldrip that he had to start sharing the gospel with Peyton so that he
could be in our finding pool! hahaha-maybe we can teach him over Skype?
That's
about it for this week, folks. Hope y'all are having a good one!
